Utd had the first shot at goal in the eighth minute, Danny Griffin swirling in a vicious free- kick from the left which surprised Kevin Budinauckas, he did well to fist clear.

In the 15th minute Thistle were denied an opener by a piece of goalkeeping brilliance from Paul Gallagher. Alan Archibald drilled a low ball into the box from the left, Scott McLean flicked it into the path of Martin Hardie but Gallagher made a superb save.

Budinauckas and Stephen Craigan collided as they went for the same cross ball and it fell to the feet of Jim McIntyre but his chipped effort was cleared off the line by Scott Paterson.

Moments later United had another chance when Griffin fired in a blistering long- range shot but the Thistle keeper got down well to his right to make the save.

In the 50th minute United came closest to scoring when Tassos Venetis was sent clear but as he was about to pull the trigger Craigan did well to block.

Mid-way through the second half a ball hit through for Alex Burns was collected by the Utd keeper which he appear to then take the ball outside his box. Jags fans were up in arms and so was John Lambie, who also believe it was a hand ball. The ref John Underhill said nothing and play continued.

The Jags had some more small chances but really couldn't make anything of them.

A good performance but just lacking the goal scoring touch.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Jamie Mitchell
Had a brilliant game showed some great skill with the ball at his feet giving thistle chances to shot infront of goal. He also wasn't scared to stick the foot in against players much bigger and stronger than himself.
