Thistle - Hearts match report

Thistle took on Hearts today at Firhill, if they lost the team was relegated as we didn’t the ice is on hold for a wee while.

The Jags started off brightly and Grady, who returned from injury, looked lively and earned himself in a booking in the opening windows for clashing with Hearts keeper Gordon.

Thistle looked sharp and superior to Hearts and the inspirational Madaschi swiftly dealt with any chances that Hearts had.

Madaschi found himself attacking rather than defending when a corner found its way to his feet and the big man’s volley was slightly scuffed towards the top corner and easily saved.

Thistles next chance again came from a ball from a corner. This time it fell to JP McBride but his shot was blocked by a number of Hearts players.

After the break it was Thistle who looked the better team playing some nice flowing football. Jamie Mitchell was denied a penalty and booked for diving.

Minutes later Andy Thomson ran through to a stray Pressley header, and the striker chipped the ball over the on-rushing Gordon into the back of the net to score his third goal in three games.

Hearts tried desperately to try and pull even and had lots of pressure. Adrian Madaschi won all the high balls pumped into the box cleanly rising above the massive De Vries.

Hearts midfielder Paul Hartley made a run into the box, but floored it, not to the liking of whistler Freeland he was booked, this was to help put and end to his game as he was later booked for a bad challenge on Mitchell putting an early end to his game.

Thistle had a chance to make it 2-0 in the closing minutes. Gerry Britton cut the ball back to Willie Howie who shot low and hard, but Gordon saved it superbly.
