Thistle continued their improvement in form by taking all three points from this closely- fought encounter.

The game took a while to get going, and it was a full 14 minutes before the first effort on goal when Mark Roberts' 20-yard shot was well saved by the Forfar keeper.

Thistle thought they had taken the lead after 23 minutes, but the referee had blown for a Jukka Santala foul. At this stage, despite their good passing play, Forfar were unable to make any clear-cut attempts on the Thistle goal. However, this changed as the half drew to a close and Barry Sellars should have done better than shoot over from only six yards with the goal at his mercy after 43 minutes.

And on the stroke of half-time Steven Bonar saw his snap-shot superbly tipped over by Colin Stewart in the Thistle goal.

Thistle seemed to be fired up for the second half, and they took a deserved lead after 54 minutes when a Ricky Gillies free-kick found its way to Roberts, whose 14-yard shot flew high into the net giving the keeper no chance.

This goal seemed to inspire Thistle, and Graham Dorrans on 58 and David Craig on 66 both had chances to extend their lead.

Forfar again played neat football but were unable to mount any chances to bring an equaliser, and as the game drew to a close Thistle were comfortably able to hang on to claim a welcome and deserved three points.
