Gretna took another step towards securing the Second Division title with a comfortable victory over Thistle, who continue to make hard work of securing a play-off place.

Right from the start the visitors looked the hungrier side, and after only five minutes David Nicholls latched on to a loose ball but his shot from 20 yards flew just over.

Gretna continued to dominate the match with Kenny Deuchar after 12 minutes and Chris Innes four minutes later being unfortunate not to put their side ahead.

Thistle had goalkeeper Kenny Arthur to thank for keeping the scores level with good saves from James Grady after 18 minutes and Ryan Baldacchino in the 27th.

Thistle were trying to play through the midfield, but solid defending kept their chances to a minimum and it was a full 40 minutes before their first real chance when Billy Gibson's free-kick was met by the head of Adam Strachan, but his header flew past the wrong side of the post.

The second half continued in a similar pattern with lots of endeavour from both sides but no real chances until Gretna doubled their lead after 73 minutes when Steve Tosh played in Deuchar, and he outpaced Scott Boyd before calmly slotting the ball past a despairing Arthur.

Thistle's first shot on target came in the second minute of injury time at the end of the game when Stevie Nicholas forced Alan Main to make a save for his only telling contribution of the game.

Gretna ran out comfortable winners, and as the players left the field the tune "Road To Nowhere" could be heard over the PA system, very apt for Thistle at the moment.
