Hearts - Thistle Match Report

The Jags travelled to Tynecastle to play 3rd placed Hearts. Thistle lined up in an un-familiar 4-5-1 formation, with John Paul McBride coming in for Andy Thomson.

It was Hearts who started the brighter of the two sides and had a few chances from free-kicks at the edge of the Thistle box, however they failed to really trouble Langfield. Langfields suspect kicking was in evidence again as a simple pass back with De Vries closing him down he kicked straight to Phil Stamp but fortnunatley the Hearts anchor man shot wide.

Thistle had a good spell with chances being made, Jamie Mitchell having the best of them but it was bread and butter stuff for the Hearts defence not allowing any shots to reach keeper Craig Gordon.

Three minutes before the break and it was Hearts who scored. A mistake by Madaschi in the box and the ball spun to the unmarked Wyness at the back post who tapped in with ease.

Thistle had a few good chances best one being an excellent move down the right. Lilley passed it to Mitchell and the wee man ran drove into the box and squared it across the edge, his pass was expertley dummied by Flemming letting it run to JP Mcbride, but Andy Webster blocked the midfielders shot.

Thistle failed to really threaten the Hearts goal and Grady was tiring after leading the line himself all day. Things didnt look any better either in the 57th minute after Jamie Mitchell was sent off for dissent after what looked a stone wall penalty.

In the 78th Minute Wyness doubled his and Hearts goal tally. A confusion in the defence between Madaschi and Langfield and the ball broke loose to Wyness who chipped into the empty net.

Dissapointing performance by Thistle, the new formation not doing much to help. A couple of more hard games coming up, the first being Rangers on Sunday.
