Both sides will feel aggrieved at only taking a point from this stalemate.

However, neither side deserved to lose but it was an entertaining match, despite the blank score-line.

Thistle dominated the first half but failed to make the most of their opportunities and played much of the second period with only 10 men after James Gibson was sent off for a second booking.

That allowed Forfar in turn to dominate, but they too passed up several glorious chances.

Thistle's Scott McCulloch twice went close with fierce free-kicks from just outside the box in the first half, and Barry Donald had to clear off his line to prevent an Adam Strachan header giving the Jags the lead.

Two minutes before the break Forfar keeper Sean Murdoch made a great block to stop a point-blank header from Stevie Nicholas.

The game's turning point came in the 54th minute when Gibson picked up a second booking after the referee said he dived in the box when challenged by Alan Rattray. It was a hard decision, but Forfar took full advantage of the extra man.

Barry Sellars had enough chances for a hat-trick, but either shot wide or straight at the keeper.

His worst miss came in the 70th minute when he was played clear through on goal, but a poor first touch allowed the keeper to smother.

Thistle's Strachan should have secured all three points in the 82nd minute when he avoided two last-gasp tackles but blasted wide with the goal at his mercy.
