Mitchell wants us to be the 12th

Despite failing to get the win they so desperately needed against Ross County at Firhill yesterday, Jags midfielder Jamie Mitchell is still convinced they can beat the drop - if they get the backing of the fans in their remaining games. He insists the players are giving it their all, and wants the loyal Jags support to be their 12th man, instead of showing their frustration at the events on the park.

He said: "The Partick Thistle fans have a great reputation for getting behind the players, but I don't think that was the case today. We could have been 2-0 or 3-0 up at half-time and I don't think we deserved to be booed when we still had 45 minutes to go.

"I think in the predicament we're in we need the fans to be the 12th man for us. I know they are frustrated, but they are the biggest and probably the most loyal support in the First Division and when they get behind us it gives us a great atmosphere, and we need them to give us 100% backing in every game right now.

"If they were to come into our dressing room to see how despondent we all are after a game like that, they'd know how much it means to us all. There are seven games to go and as I said we need the fans to get behind us. The manager is behind us, the players are up for it, they can see we're giving 110% every game. I think if I'd scored today we would have went on to win the game and everyone would be happy.

"I'm annoyed with myself for missing those chances, but I did feel I played well enough but the bottom line is I should have scored. I'm one away from my 40th career goal so maybe that's a milestone that's in the back of my mind and it's frustrating that I didn't manage to score. I'd made up my mind early to take it round the keeper but he got fingertips to the ball and did well to force me wide.

"I still think we can stay up, we played well today and should have won the game. We've got a good run-in so there is a lot to play for yet. The boys are despondent after the game, but we need get back in on Monday and give 100% to get ready for St Mirren next week. The manager has said the remainder of the season is like a mini league and I think you can see from the way we approached the game today that it was like a cup final for us and we've just got to do the same for the next seven games.
