After what has seemed an eternity we have managed to reach agreement with Ayr United on Friday afternoon to secure the permanent signing of 22 year old defender Mark Smyth. The Irish defender has been number one priority for the manager since the end of the season and he is definitely delighted to secure his capture:
"I see Mark Smyth as a very important signing for the club and I am very pleased to have fought off several clubs to get his name on a contract. He is a dominant type of player that I feel we badly lacked last season and he was always the one player I was determined to get hold of.
I would also like to thank the Directors for coming up with the money to sign him. I see him as a long term signing and that is why we have managed to secure him on a three year contract."
Agreement was reached with Ayr on Friday evening and he is moving to Firhill withouth the need for a tribunal after the clubs agreed on a five figure sum.
