Whyte demands more from Partick

PARTICK THISTLE co-boss Derek Whyte has warned his men he's looking for a victory every week, following their opening day defeat to Clyde.

Airdrie United are the visitors to Firhill tomorrow and the Jags chief knows they can't afford to fall too far behind the pacesetters in the First Division. However, he's not starting to panic just yet.

He said: "We are only one match into the campaign so to say we are under pressure already is wide of the mark.

"Having said that we were disappointed with the loss at Clyde and we need to bounce back straight away. It's not a case of looking for one win though, we need to be winning every week."

Missing from the Thistle defence tomorrow will be Andy Dowie, who was sent off last week, but Whyte says he has no fears over Dowie's deputy.

Moreover Whyte who is relishing the clash with ex Jag Sandy Stewart’s side has expressed his confidence that his new look strike force will find their shooting boots against the Diamonds.

He said: "Young Andy Wilkinson will come straight in for Andy Dowie and we have no worries there. He has been outstanding in pre-season for us and he deserves his chance.

"Having competition for places is something we are trying to build here, it could be if Andy Wilkinson does a good job tomorrow then he will take some dislodging.

"Leigh (Hinds) has looked good in training this week. Maybe he did lack a bit of sharpness at Clyde but that will not be long in coming back. I also felt big Armand One caused some problems, although he is also a bit away from full fitness.

"However, we were delighted with Ramon, who again showed how sharp he is with our goal. But big Armand will feature at some stage.

"Airdrie have made a good start and obviously they have a real goalscoring threat in Owen Coyle. But we will not be making any special plans for Owen, it's up to the boys at the back to do their job. "

The Jags have also shelved plans to sign French midfield Lionel Djebizedi after he failed to impress on trial.
