Manager Dick Campbell has added another name to the squad with the expected signing of striker Steven Nicholas who has impressed in pre-season training. The 24 year old striker started out with Stirling Albion where he made his debut as a 16 year old before moving to Motherwell. Sadly he became one of 19 "victims" of the redundancies that were announced and he admitted that took an awful lot out of him. He returned to play with East Fife before getting the chance of this move to Firhill which the player admits is exciting:

"It is a superb move for me and I can't wait for the season to start. I am coming to a big club but it really is good to be playing full time football again after a couple of seasons away. I am delighted that the manager has given me the chance and given what has gone on before in my career, this is one I intend not to waste. Fitness wise I feel good with what has happened so far and then the football starts for real and all I want now is the season to start.

This is another chance for me at full time football. I didn't appreciate what it was all about when I signed a 3 year deal with Motherwell but my experiences of the past couple of seasons make me all the more aware of what is required here at Firhill. After leaving Motherwell, it was a case of going out and getting a job, training at night, and then playing on a Saturday. This is now a chance to put that kind of workload behind me and concentrate fully on playing football to the best of my ability and grabbing the chance of first team football again.

It will be a very tough league next season. I played against Gretna last season and they are a good side but I am sure that this squad is capable of mixing it with the best in the league and I am confident that we will be there or there abouts come the end of the season."
