Former liverpool star Scott Paterson who was signed By Grame Souness at the age of 19 has also predicted a glittering future lies ahead for Thistle youngster Andy Gibson.

Paterson came through the Anfield ranks with the `spice boys' quartet of Jamie Redknapp, Robbie Fowler, Don Hutchinson and Steve McManaman.

And the Jags star reckons Gibson has the potential to be even be even BETTER than Macca.

He said: "Andy reminds me of McManaman the way he runs past players. He's like lightning - I think he's even quicker than Macca.

"He is an excellent player. He has got everything! He is good on the ball and he makes good runs into the box. He just needs a chance in the game and could go a long way."

Paterson claimed the cocky youngster has the confidence to succeed, adding: "He's a very shy boy. He just sits quietly in the corner... with a big cigar in his mouth!"

The highly-rated stopper was linked with SPL clubs including Aberdeen, Livingston and Dunfermline last term as well as Berti Vogts' Scotland squad.

He would love to represent his country and the 30-year-old has no doubt that despite his age he has the ability to succeed at the heart of the Scottish defence.

He said: "It's all up to me. If I continue playing the way I am capable then Mr Vogts will consider me.

"I don't think age would be a problem. He showed that last year with Graham Alexander at Preston.

"Even though Graham is 30, it was felt he could still make a contribution at international level."

"It's every young boy's dream to play for Scotland and I am no different. Berti is casting a fresh eye over everyone and I would love it if he gave me a chance."
