MADACHI'S AGONY AS OLYMPIC HOPES SUFFER

Adrian Madaschi’s Olympic medal hopes suffered a blow as Australian were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Tunisia in Crete last night.

The Partick Thistle star knows the Aussies must now beat Serbia and Montenegro on Saturday and speaking from his hotel on the island, Madaschi said: "We are all very disappointed to have drawn with Tunisia - especially since Argentina hammered Serbia and Montenegro 6-0 in the other group game.

"W
e controlled so much of the game last night and led at the break thanks to a goal from John Aloisi, only to lose a sloppy equaliser.

"The boys are disappointed with both the performance and the result, but we have no time to feel sorry for ourselves."

Playing at the Olympics has meant no close-season break for Madaschi, but he reckons he will benefit from his non- stop summer.

H
e said: "At 21 I don't think fatigue will catch up with me. In any case, the way the Jags squad has been strengthened I'll have a battle on my hands to get back in when I return to Glasgow."

Despite concentrating his energies on the Olympics, Madaschi is aware of Jags' stuttering start to the season and has tipped his club mates to take care of Sandy Stewart’s Airdrie on Saturday.

He said: "I saw the Scottish results on TV here and I know the boys will be frustrated to have lost their opening league game 2-1 to Clyde.

"But there is more than enough quality at Firhill to sort that out on Saturday against Airdrie."
