Thistle - Airdrie Utd Match Preview

Last updated : 12 August 2004 By Ally

Thistle go into Saturday’s game against Airdrie on the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat away to Clyde last Saturday with Andy Dowie suspended and Ian Ross still out injured, Kenny Milne is also doubtful. Adrian Madaschi is still away on international duty representing Australia at the Olympic games.

If the Jags want to take anything from this game they will need to learn from their mistakes from last week at Broadwood and take their chances in front of goal and cut out sloppy mistakes at the back.

Thistle face league new boys Airdrie United who come into the game winning their last two games 1-0 and 3-0 against St Johnstone and East Fife respectfully. Airdrie’s latest signing and former Firhill favourite Martin Hardie is not expected to play because of a lack of match fitness.

Editor prediction : Airdrie have a strong team with a lot of punch in the forward areas with Jerome Varielle, Allan Gow and Owen Coyle, however I think the Thistle defence are more than capable that containing them. I hope Thistle will be able to over come them and convert more chances than they did against Clyde last week and should be out to impress after the disappointing performance in front of the large travelling support last week. A close game though but I think Thistle will run out 3-1 winners.
